Christopher Cronin
Director of Metadata and Cataloging Services
Joseph Regenstein Library
University of Chicago

Christopher Cronin has been Director of Metadata and Catalogin Services a thte University of Chicago Library since 2008.  Prior to going to Chicago, he was Assistant Professor and Head of Digital Resources Cataloging at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Chris has a B.A. in English Literature from the University of British Columbia and an MIS from the University of Toronto.  He is active on several committees of the American Library Association and the Association for Library Collectiosn and Technical Services (ALCTS).  He is currently Chair of the ALCTS Heads of Cataloging Interest Group and was recently elected to the Policy Committee of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging.  In addition to his publications on metadata and cataloging, Chris has been a consultatnt on a number of metadata initiatives, both nationally and internationally, and was the coordinator for the University of Chicago's testing, and subsequent implementation, of RDA.



 
 

Erin Stalberg
Head, Metadata and Cataloging
North Carolina State University Libraries

Erin Stalberg is Head of Metadata & Cataloging at North Carolina State University Libraries (Raleigh, NC) where she leads a department of twenty staff in the Libraries' cataloging and metadata initiatives.  The department is responsible for the cataloging of materials in all formats and in all languages, both in MARC and in non-MARC schema.  She has held previous positions as Head of Cataloging Services at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), and at Saint Joseph's University Library (Philadelphia, PA), and she served as the Librarian for Semester at Sea (spring 2007 voyage), traveling around the world.  Stalberg also teaches Organization of Materials II as an adjunct at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Information and Library Science.  Her professional interests include cataloging management, integration of metadata initiatives into traditional cataloging departments, and training of support staff in non-MARC metadata creation.  She serves as webmaster for the Women's Studies Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), has been a trainer for the Library of Congress/ALCTS program "Metadata Standards & Applications," in the series Cataloging for the 21st Century, and is currently Chair-Elect for the ALCTS Cataloging and Metadata Management Section (formerly known as CCS).



 
 

Beacher Wiggins
Director, Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access

Library of Congress

Beacher Wiggins has been director for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access at the Library of Congress since 2004.  He was director for cataloging, 1995-2004.  In September 2002, he was appointed Acting Associate Librarian for Library Services, 2002-2003.  His entire library career has been at the Library of Congress, starting in 1972 as a cataloger.  He is active in the American Library Association and IFLA.  He co-led the U.S. RDA test.  He received an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin--Madison School of Library and Information Studies in 1972.



 

Glenn Patton
Director, WorldCat Quality Management
OCLC

Glenn Patton is Director of the WorldCat Quality Management Division at OCLC, where he has spent more than 30 years doing support, training and product management activities for OCLC services and products.  He and his staff are responsible for cataloging standards activities, for quality-control activities in WorldCat and for various aspects of OCLC's relationships with vendors from whom OCLC acquires bibliographic data.  Glenn also serves as OCLC's liaison to the ALA ALCTS Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access, and to the Program for Cooperative Cataloging's Steering Committee.  He is a member of the IFLA Standing Committee on Bibliography and chaired the IFLA Working Group on Functional Requirements and Numbering of Authority Records.

Dave Hemingway-Turner

Dave has a strong knowledge of Library Automation and Emerging Technologies for libraries.  He is especially interested in workflow management and creating efficiencies for libraries.  He received his Bachelors of Arts from the College of Charleston, SC and his M.L.S. from the University of Buffalo.  Dave has over a decade of practical library experience including virtual libraries and library management.  He has held many executive board level positions with the Special Libraries Association.  He has been with Innovative Interfaces as a consultant for two years.




 
 

Mike Dicus
Ex Libris

Mike has worked in the library industry since 1982 and has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in school, public and academic libraries throughout his career.  He received his MLS in 1989 and an MBA in 2001.  Mike's library experience includes both public and technical services as well as library administration, grant writing, budgeting, and community and governmental relations.

Mike began working for a library vendor in 2001, starting as a Voyager trainer for Endeavor before moving into pre-sales and product management roles.  He has been the Voyager product manager since September 2006 and continues to guide the future direction of Voyager since the merger with Ex Libris.

Travel Information

Directions

Washington Research Library Consortium is located about 30 miles outside of Washington, DC in Prince George's County, Maryland, between Bowie and Upper Marlboro.

Parking is being made available next door to WRLC in the Nordstrom's parking lot at 839 Commerce Drive parking lot.  There will be signs directing you to the parking lot.  From there, WRLC is a short walk to the East at 901 Commerce Drive.

For Metro riders:

Take the Orange Line to the New Carrollton Metro station.  Once you arrive at the station, exit to your right -- the Route 50 exit.  DO NOT take the Route 450 exit.  There will be a shuttle bus with a PTPL sign in the window.  Tell the driver you are with PTPL.  The shuttle will arrive at the New Carrollton Metro station Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30am and leave the station for WRLC at approximately 7:55am.  There will be a second shuttle arriving at the New Carrollton Metro station at approximately 8:30am (or later, depending on traffic).  It will leave New Carrollton at approximately 8:40am.

There will be a shuttle leaving WRLC for the New Carrollton Metro station at 4:00pm at the conclusion of the afternoon tour of WRLC.  This will be the only shuttle in the afternoon.

Lodging

A small number of hotel rooms have been reserved for attendees at the Comfort Inn Conference Center under the "PTPL" reservation.  Please contact the hotel prior to September 20, 2011 to take advantage of the reservation.
